Elderberry Gummy-Making Kit
Here’s a kid-and-parent project kit that’s: a) not too difficult to do, b) pretty easy to get a good result, and c) bonus, the kids actually want to eat what they make! Naturally flavored gummies, made in half an afternoon, gobbled in minutes. Tested by hand in Mo’s house to universal kid acclaim. It’s a lot of fun.
The ingredients are just gelatin, elderberry, and maple syrup. The kit also includes molds for the gummies and instructions to make the candy. Makes a couple batches of 15, and then you can probably figure out a hack to keep it going even longer (the elderberry will last for many more runs).
Recipe
60 ml. bottle (1/4 cup) of Elderberry Apple Shots
half 60 ml bottle (1/8 cup) of Organic Maple Syrup
1 envelope beef gelatin
1 ice cube
- In a small saucepan, pour one 60 ml. bottle Elderberry Apple Shots and add 1 ice cube. Allow the cube to melt.
- Slowly sprinkle 1 envelope of gelatin over the cold mixture. The gelatin will look wrinkled. Allow each granule to be soaked. Do not stir at this point or the gelatin will clump. This takes a few minutes.
- Turn the heat on under the saucepan, medium/medium-low. Allow the gelatin to dissolve. Stir or swirl the pan after it is dissolved. Use as little heat as possible to preserve nutrients. Stir in 1/2 of the 60 ml. bottle Maple Syrup
- Pour the gummy liquid into the molds, filling to the top of each one. Use a pouring container (like a measuring cup) to avoid spilling.
- Place the tray in the freezer for 10 minutes, in the refrigerator for 30 minutes, or leave for 1 hour on the counter.
- Gently flex the molds to remove the gummies. If they dont’ come out cleanly, they haven’t finished setting up.
Makes 15 gummies.
