Sun-Dried White Mulberries

From Ziba Foods, a company set up in order to help women in Afghanistan make a sustainable living. These white mulberries grow wild in the foothills of the Hindu Kush mountains in the north of Afghanistan. Locals sun dry the berries to concentrate their sweetness and prepare them for long storage—and maximize their snackability.

Each berry is about the size of a large raisin, with a surprising yet satisfying, crunchy bite and a deep, honeyed sweetness that grows and grows as you nibble on them. Like other dried fruits, they’re packed with nutrients and make an awesome energy boosting snack. Unlike other dried fruits, these have a crisp edge and are a lot more fun to eat.

I’ve taken to replacing any recipes that call for dried cherries or raisins with these mulberries and they’ve been a hit.
