Zingerman's Marshmallows

I know those supermarket marshmallows you had as a kid have a strong nostalgic pull. To enjoy ours, you kind of need to put that rosy memory aside and treat these as a totally new species, like a confection discovered on a previously unknown island.

Our handmade marshmallows have a surprisingly huge flavor and a rich, luscious texture that’s different from anything you’ve probably tried. The vanilla ones are made with real Mexican vanilla. Chocolate is made with Scharffen Berger cocoa and a smattering of semi-sweet chocolate chunks for a bit of added texture and chocolatey oomph.

Another difference between our marshmallows and the ones from the grocery is how long they keep. Don't let these hang out in the back of your cupboard for months on end. They're best eaten within a week or so of when you receive them. Or, for longer storage, they freeze beautifully for up to a few months.

If you're making some really good hot cocoa, they make a worthwhile addition. And S'mores? Indeed! But don't miss out on eating one (or a handful) just plain. The flavor is so full, and the texture is so light and lovely, that in my opinion that's the best way to enjoy them.
